                1. My walkthrough of what Apple's recently announced child safety features truly mean, and their potential negative impact. There is significant cause for worry with these steps into mass surveillance. Lots of links and references to people smarter than me. axbom.com/apple-child-safety-harms/

This is hugely important. The way Apple are releasing information bit by bit allows them to continuously reframe, making it seem as if critics are confused - when they truly are not. Watch the timeline. Iwillleavenow/1426266337907666944

I keep seeing Apple say their phone's are the same globally, not different by country. In the same breath they say on-device detection will be rolled out first in the US. Meanwhile: FaceTime was blocked in Saudi Arabia. And lots of compromise in China: nytimes.com/2021/05/17/technology/apple-china-censorship-data.html

"Attempts to limit sexually explicit speech tend to (accidentally or on purpose) harm LGBTQ people more. Many of these rules are aimed in particular at sex workers, and LGBTQ people are disproportionately likely to use sex work as means of survival." wired.co.uk/article/apple-google-lgbtq-apps

The huge pushback from the privacy community has delayed Apple’s rollout. This is not yet a win but an indication of how important it is to keep fighting against notions like this. It moves the needle. techcrunch.com/2021/09/03/apple-csam-detection-delayed/
