  1. When you do research, what types of efforts do you put into protecting the identity of research subjects? Thinking of local storage vs cloud storage, anonymization of transcripts and file names, designated data storage responsible (and responsible for deletion in X weeks)? More?

I never write names in my notes. I know that’s not always enough not to be able to de-anonymize data. But it’s a good start. It’s also worth mentioning to people, to help them feel safer in the interview situation. Using pseudonyms works as well.

Digital tools can make things so much more complex. Recently I pointed out the need for anonymization on a wiki, upon which that bit of information was changed. But a wiki saves all edits, that’s sort of its selling point. Need to remember to delete history as well.
