per_p Yes, if I install a workout/health app I may be doing so with the knowledge that notifications may benefit my overall health. Or notifications to take medication for example can help in cognitive distress. Important not to generalize I believe.

per_p But I also of course see your point and think the proposition could be worded as "You have less free will if apps send notifications by default and intent to change that behavior requires significant effort (cognitive, physical or otherwise)." In which case I would agree ;)
