A man was firing out a window. Teargas was used first but he did not respond. When he opened fire at the police officers they fired back. The incident still led to national mourning, and the Iceland police department immediately apologized to the family out of respect.Permalink On twitter.com

Iceland is one of the countries (like Norway, New Zealand, Britain and Ireland) where police officers generally don't carry guns. Of those, Iceland is the only country where it's legal for citizens to carry guns, with an estimate of 30 privately-owned guns per 100 people.Permalink On twitter.com

Those were my Sunday morning musings and learnings. Also remember that Iceland is an island nation of just over 360,000 people. There are not a whole lot of conclusions to draw, other than that there are always different ways to manage law and order.Permalink On twitter.com
