Just saw one of my previous students question the ethics of a new app in a LI post by the COO. He did the usual "we're just building the app, what people do with it is not our problem" and "how could this possibly be misused". She calmly explained tools for evaluating impact. ❤️

Can't really let this go. The app is an award-winning app, endorsed by governmental bodies, designed to store covid-19 immunity passports to allow more movement for immune people. The reality that an app designed to control civil rights undergoes no ethical evaluations is 🤢.

Also, how can you work with a product like this and also have completely missed all the articles and experts voicing concerns about... yes, the ethics of immunity certificates! Gaah... "Driving too fast is hardly the concern of the car manufacturer." Yes, his actual argument!

Another argument (yes, really!): "People are different. Someone will always be excluded. How would society look if everyone was the same?"
