On LinkedIn I was asked if my biggest gripe with HEY is that it’s not free. It’s not at all. My biggest gripes are accessibility, software lock-in, and the hype of HEY being an e-mail saviour. :) I may need to rewrite stuff if I give that impression about paid.

Paid can certainly be good and if you are going from free to paid, that’s a reason to be more diligent in looking at other paid solutions as well. The services at the end of the article all offer paid variants. I like how Protonmail offers both.

Thinking more about it, and looking at how many novel ways of managing e-mail that HEY introduces, 14 days of trying all these things out (before giving a lot of people your e-mail address) is nowhere near enough to make a sound judgement about committing.
