                  1. Yes, Facebook is paying $52 million in mental health settlements to moderators. Note that this is spread out over 11,250 moderators, with each to receive a minimum of $1,000 and eligible for additional compensation if they are diagnosed with PTSD.

              Remember: the work performed by these moderators will continue, with regular exposure to photos and images of rape, murder, and suicide. FB will add more counselling and require vendors to screen applicants for emotional resiliency as part of the recruiting and hiring process(!)

          “The preliminary settlement covers moderators working in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida from 2015 until now.” So, also not the moderators working in other locations. That’s important. The way to get FB to ‘care’ about you is to sue them.

        If anything, this should serve as an important reminder to everyone of what it takes to keep a platform like Facebook running. To spell it out: Lots and lots of ruined lives.
